Kicking Off the Year with Creativity!

We’ve officially started building our art portfolios, and the excitement in the classroom was contagious! Each student received a folder that will hold all of their amazing artwork throughout the year. To make it truly their own, we spent time decorating the front page—a fun and expressive way to kick things off and let personalities shine through.

Alongside that, the students completed their "All About Me" sheets, which gave me a wonderful glimpse into who they are—their interests, favorite colors, hobbies, and more. It was such a joy to learn more about each of them, and it’s already helping me connect with their creative styles.

It was a fun and inspiring start, and I can’t wait to see how their portfolios grow with each new project. Stay tuned for more updates and snapshots of our artistic journey!

A Joyful Start to the Art Journey!

Meeting the kids for the first time was absolutely wonderful!

Their energy, curiosity, and smiles lit up the room and made me feel instantly welcomed. We kicked things off with a fun icebreaker game called "Meeting the Teacher", a guessing game where they tried to figure out the correct answers about my life. It was heartwarming to see how eager they were to learn more about me, and their guesses were both hilarious and surprisingly spot-on!

After the game, we dove into our first creative activity: decorating our name tags. This wasn’t just about writing names—it was about expressing identity through color, shape, and imagination. I was amazed by the creativity that started to bloom right away. Some kids used bold patterns, others added tiny illustrations, and a few even created mini stories within their designs.

I’m already seeing great talent and unique artistic voices emerging! I can’t wait to see how their creativity unfolds throughout the year. This is just the beginning, and I’m so excited to be part of their artistic journey. Stay tuned for more colorful adventures!

Becoming an Elementary Art Teacher in 2025!

I’m beyond excited to share some big news—starting this year, 2025, I will be working as an art teacher at an elementary school!

This opportunity feels incredibly special to me, both personally and professionally. After earning my degree in Graphic Design and Art History, I’ve always dreamed of bringing my passion for creativity and visual culture into the classroom. Now that dream is becoming a reality.

I’ve spent this summer preparing enthusiastically—reading, researching, and designing lessons that I hope will inspire my future students. My goal is to make art fun, meaningful, and accessible for all kids, no matter their skill level. We’ll be learning about the elements of art, the principles of design, the color wheel, famous art movements, and so much more.

I truly believe that art education helps children develop not only creativity but also confidence, empathy, and critical thinking. I can’t wait to create a space where they feel free to express themselves and explore the world through art.

Here’s to a colorful and creative school year ahead!

Post-Impressionist Art Activity with Kids: Inspired by Van Gogh’s Starry Night

This week in our art class, we explored the beautiful world of Post-Impressionism with the children, taking inspiration from Vincent van Gogh’s iconic masterpiece, The Starry Night. It was a colorful, creative, and hands-on activity that combined painting with collage elements, and the kids absolutely loved it!

We began by introducing the children to Post-Impressionism and the bold, expressive style of Van Gogh. We discussed his use of swirling brushstrokes, vibrant colors, and how he painted what he felt, not just what he saw. The children were fascinated by his unique way of bringing the night sky to life.

For the project, each child received a canvas and used acrylic paint to create their version of the night sky. They practiced swirling strokes with different shades of blue, purple, and white, and then painted the landscape with hills and fields.

After the background was dry, we moved on to a mixed-media component. We provided pre-cut elements like the cypress tree, stars, moon, and buildings. The children decorated these pieces separately and then glued them onto their canvases to complete their compositions. Finally, we applied a coat of Mod Podge over the entire artwork to seal everything in and give it a beautiful, finished shine.

The results were stunning and full of personality! Each piece reflected the child’s interpretation of The Starry Night while incorporating their own creative flair.

Below are some examples of the amazing final artworks. This activity was not only a fun way to introduce famous art and techniques, but also a chance for the children to express themselves freely with color, texture, and movement.

Stay tuned for more creative projects!
